Super Tuesday: Where Does Cannabis Stand?

on

In the 2020 election hype, cannabis reform hasn’t been touched on much. Last month the question came up at the South Carolina debate, but no candidate’s cannabis reform plan has reported specific details as of yet.

Most remaining candidates are supporting some form of legalization, with the exception of Joe Biden and Michael Bloomberg. However, legalization seems to have taken a backseat to more immediate concerns and broader economic and health care-related issues. Nonetheless the debate over cannabis reform is more visible than ever in politics.

CannabisDispensaryMag.com published a poll for marijuana business owners to find out which party they are leaning towards as primary season heats up. Prior to Super Tuesday, there seven potential candidates. Then, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the race.

In our poll, Buttigieg held 16% of the vote from respondents—second place in the poll results. He went on to endorse Biden Monday night in Dallas, it’s unclear whether his base will follow.

Bernie Sanders led the poll with 44% of the vote (of 80 responses), similar results to the actual primaries. He has held a strong pro-cannabis reform stance throughout his campaign, speaking regularly about the importance of social justice and small business development—going so far as to promise some sort of executive action on the first day of his presidency to legalize cannabis.

Here’s the full list of poll results:

Bernie Sanders: 44%

Pete Buttigieg: 16%

Elizabeth Warren: 7%

Amy Klobuchar: 4%

Michael Bloomberg: 3%

Joe Biden: 1%

Another 21% reported that they won’t be voting in the Democratic primary. On the Republican side of the primary season, 32% of respondents said they’ll be voting for President Trump. (No real Republican force has mounted a serious challenge to the incumbent.) The remaining respondents stated that they won’t be voting in the Republican primary either.
